
| Getting Started Download the program and install it according to the instructions on the Download Page. Don't be afraid to experiment and try different things. There's lots you can do to customize the behaviour of FeederReader. And if you have any questions, you can ask on the message board or you can read the manual. Add a Feed Probably the first thing you want to do after installation is add a feed. To do this, tap the Tools | Add RSS Feed menu item. This will open the URL Box at the top of the screen. Clear the URL Box with the Tap-And-Hold menu on the box itself, select Clear. Type in the URL of the feed. This will be something like "http://feeds.feedburner.com/PocketcastingcomPodcastingDirectory" (without the quotes). Tap the RSS button. This will add the Feed to the bottom of the list in the List View. That's it! Update Feeds The easiest way to update your feeds is to tap the All | Update. This will add all feeds to the Update Queue and begin Updating. This will even dial a connection through the built-in Connection Manager. The Update will happen in the background and you can read messages while downloading. New messages will automatically appear in the List View and the down arrow will automatically jump to the new messages as they are added. You can download one a group of feeds by through the Tap-And-Hold menu items. To see this menu, go to the List View and tap on a node. Then Tap-And-Hold that node and the menu will pop up. Tap Update RSS. The number of feeds is shown on the status bar. You should see it slowly reduce to zero as feeds are updated. If you tap the status bar, the Detailed Status Box will be displayed. Tap the Status Bar again to hide the details. Organize Feeds You can create a category to place several similar feeds into. To do this, select Tools | New | Category. Then type in the name of the category and tap the Cat button. Next, tap the Tools | Manage RSS Feeds menu item. Then tap the check boxes of all the feeds you want to move into the new category. Once all of the feeds are checked, select (highlight) the category. Tap-and-Hold to get the pop up menu and select Move To | In. Reading Messages To read messages, tap the "down arrow" button on the tool bar. This will take you to the next unread message. Note that after 3 seconds, the node you are reading will change from Read to Unread status. Just keep pressing the down arrow to read the next message. Deleting Messages When the message reaches a certain age after being downloaded, it will automatically Expire. Then delete all Expired messages by tapping All | Delete | Expired. Explore! There are lots of options to explore. The first time you open the Tools | Options... it will take about 10 seconds to appear. The next time you open it, it will be very quick. Here are a few options you may want to check out: Display Tab: Change the size of the text and whether you can see message and feed details. Update Tab: Change what happens during feed updates. Expire Tab: Change how long it takes for messages to expire. Enclosure Tab: Change how and when enclosures/podcasts are downloaded. You can change what the down arrow and up arrow do. Select the Change Arrow item, then select the function you want for the arrow. And more! Once you get the hang of feeds, there's more to discover.
